چکیده

Background:The smear layer formation during root planing is a barrier for new attachment. Hence, various biomodification procedures, have been introduced to detoxify, decontaminate, and demineralise root surfaces, thereby, aiding in new attachment. So, there is a need to evaluate various root biomodifying agents. Materials and methods:EBSCO HOST was searched for entries since 1966 2014, which included:Journal of Periodontology, Annals of Periodontology, Periodontology 2000, Journal of Clinical Periodontology, International Journal of Periodontics and Restorative dentistry, Journal of Indian Society of Periodontology and Journal of Periodontal Research. Results:Out of 63 studies, only 20 reported evidence of regeneration, for citric acid, tetracycline, fibronectin, EDTA, lasers. Growth factors, sodium deoxycholate and human plasma fraction COHN IV hardly showed any role in regeneration. Conclusion:The role of root biomodification agents in regeneration is still unpredictable and questionable.is

Root Surface Biomodification: Current Status and a Literature Review on Available Agents for Periodontal Regeneration

Background: A critical step in periodontal regenerative therapy is to alter the periodontitis affected root surface to make it a hospitable substrate, to support and encourage migration, attachment, proliferation and proper phenotypic expression of periodontal connective tissue progenitor cells. So the Concept of Biochemical modification or alteration of the root surface has emerged as a potent...

Stem Cells in Regenerative Endodontics

Background Currently, clinical endodontics includes procedures that are based on the ability of stem cells to accomplish repair (eg, direct pulp capping, apexogenesis, apexification, and even pulpal regeneration). An attempt is made to critically assess the current status in pulp regeneration therapy. Methods: Systematically, 2 distinctly different strategies exist involving stem cells for t...

Effects of Tetracycline, EDTA and Citric Acid Application on Nonfluorosed and Fluorosed Dentin: An In Vitro Study

UNLABELLED Fluorosis is one of the factors that may bring about mineralization changes in teeth. Routine treatment of root biomodification is commonly followed during Periodontal therapy. BACKGROUND The Purpose of the present study was to compare and evaluate the morphological changes in fluorosed and nonfluorosed root dentin subsequent to the application of Tetracycline, EDTA and Citric acid...

Citric Acid as a Root Surface Biomodification Agent: an Update

1 attachment, which is lost during disease. This type of regeneration is described by the term 'New attachment'. New attachment is the embedding of new periodontal ligament fibres on to new cementum previously denuded by the periodontal disease. Factors interfering with new attachment are plaque, calculus, infected cementum and alterations in mineral density and composition of root. These obsta...

Efficacy of root surface biomodification in root coverage: a systematic review.

BACKGROUND Although many Authors have reported the use of root surface biomodification (RSB), the clinical outcomes in terms of root coverage are still unclear, as a number of biomodifier agents have been used in combination with various periodontal plastic surgical techniques. In this review we aim to evaluate the efficacy of RSB in root coverage and its impact on the outcomes. METHODS A sea...
